Comfortable and contemporary flat within the World Heritage Site, ideal for lone travelers or couples.
Royal Circus, in Edinburgh’s Georgian New Town, is the brainchild of William Henry Playfair, the eminent architect who designed the two National Galleries of Scotland buildings on the Mound. This charming garden-level flat is accessed via the original stone stair of a 19th-century townhouse. You’ll come down to a lobby with an integrated utility closet containing an iron, ironing board and clothes horse, with a clothes rail for storage. This leads through to the apartment’s living space. Here a two-seater sofa and an armchair oppose a 40-inch Ultra HD flat-screen TV with DVD player which is surrounded by a well-stocked bookshelf. There is a dining table and pair of chairs under art depicting closes characteristic of Edinburgh’s Old Town.
The adjoining kitchenette has a raised microwave and oven with a hob on the counter opposite. There’s also a dishwasher, fridge/freezer and washing machine and the skylight and mirror above admit and amplify daylight, augmenting an already open-plan space. The adjoining lobby leads through to the master suite, where you’ll first come to the ensuite shower room, a compact wet area with electric underfloor heating. The bedroom has a wardrobe with shelving towers on either side, a king-size bed and a dressing mirror. French doors lead out to the patio, where guests can find a chest containing a table and a pair of chairs for lounging out in the sun. An old stone wall and a honeysuckle-covered fence afford privacy.
Royal Circus is a great base for couples who want to enjoy all the flavour of life within the World Heritage Site of the Scottish capital. There are excellent amenities nearby. The apartment is within a ten-minute walk of Princes Street and the intersection of Edinburgh’s Old and New Towns, while the popular area of Stockbridge is an even shorter walk in the opposite direction, bringing you to a profusion of shops and cafes on Raeburn Place and boutiques and eateries on St Stephen Street and Hamilton Place. On a daily basis, you can, therefore, choose between the city centre shops and sights, including the Castle and Palace of Holyrood, or more leisurely outings in Stockbridge, which also boasts its own attractions and green spaces including the Water of Leith with its walkway, the well-loved Inverleith Park and Pond and the delights of The Royal Botanic Garden just beyond. All in all, you can be sure of a satisfying stay.
