This recently refurbished artisan apartment is on the top floor of the 17th century Blackie House, and can be accessed via the staircase, decorated with a series of intriguing murals, or the lift, which leads directly into the property. Located in the centre of Edinburgh’s Old Town, the apartment offers easy access to the area’s main attractions, including Edinburgh Castle, Saint Giles’ Cathedral, National Library, Festival Theatre, Usher Hall, and the National Museum.

All of its furniture, including the doors and kitchen fittings, was created by eminent designer-craftsman Rupert Williamson, with the predominance of wood extending to the flooring and imbuing the property with a character which is at once both organic and refined.

A flight of steps branches off the entrance, and is well-lit by the skylight and windows at its bottom. Off the top of the steps is the central hallway, which first leads on to the combination sitting room, dining room, and kitchen. This room contains a sofa, 2 armchairs, a coffee table, and a dining table with seating for 6. It has a well-stocked bookshelf which also boasts a selection of CDs (mainly classical music and opera) and DVDs, the latter for use with the DVD player and flatscreen TV opposite. The row of windows on the left of the room overlooks the courtyard, while those on the right offer stunning views over The Mound, to Princes Street, the north side of the city, and over the Firth of Forth to Fife.

The fitted kitchen has ample crockery and an assortment of storage jars in addition to the hob, oven, fridge, and freezer. The room also benefits from adjustable ambient lighting. Next off the hallway is the utility room, containing an ironing board and the Wi-Fi hub. Farther along is the shower room, tiled with hand-made vibrant green tiles, with a bidet, integrated storage, and views on to the courtyard. The adjacent lift leads right into the hallway, and can accommodate 2 people (no wheelchairs).

The final room of the apartment is the master bedroom, which has 2 chairs, a King-size bed with a crafted, extended headboard (allowing space on either side for books, glasses, and other necessities), an abstract chest of drawers, and an integrated wardrobe beside the bed with a built-in mirror. The room has 3 windows offering the aforementioned northern views, as well as dimmable lighting.

This flat is ideal for those who appreciate fine craftsmanship and intend to explore Edinburgh’s foremost attractions, thereby capitalizing on the property’s prime location.

NB This apartment doesn’t have a washing machine but there is a laundrette within ten minutes’ walk.
