This cosy, family-run Roman restaurant in Tollcross serves an extensive menu of authentic classic Italian pizzas and pastas, made using entirely vegan ingredients. Dishes include Mezze Maniche alla Carbonara with homemade vegan bacon and Pizza Bianca Quattro Formaggi e Funghi, all which will suit vegans and non-vegans alike. For dessert, the vegan tiramisu and cheesecake are also highly recommended!

2. Hendersons Restaurant

Using local, seasonal, and organic ingredients, Hendersons serves made-from-scratch vegan and vegetarian food in their airy restaurant near Bruntsfield Links. Renowned dishes include vegan haggis, lentil lasagne, wild mushroom risotto, and chocolate mousse. The owner, Barry Henderson, is the grandson of Janet Henderson, who opened the original Hendersons on Hanover Street in the New Town in 1962. This was the UK’s longest running vegetarian restaurant until its closure in 2020 due to the pandemic.

Located on St Patrick Square in the Southside, Kalpna is an Edinburgh institution that has been serving authentic Indian vegan and vegetarian food for over forty years. With a menu featuring a mixture of Punjabi, Gujarati, and South Indian cooking, Kalpna offers plenty of classic dishes and Indian street foods, including Mysore Masala Dosa, Thaalis, Dum Aloo Kashmiri, and Saam Savera.

4. Harmonium

‘Vegan’ is more than just vegetables: with a mission to present veganism in a positive and accessible way to everyone, this vegan bar and kitchen serves hearty burgers and pizzas as well as beer, cocktails, and organic wine. 5. Lucky Pig at Paradise Palms

Paradise Palms is a funky, tiki-themed cocktail bar, event venue, and record store in the Old Town, near the University of Edinburgh George Square campus. Inside, Lucky Pig serves big portions of quirky soul food inspired by American diner classics. All dishes are vegan unless requested to be made vegetarian, with dairy cheese. 6. David Bann Restaurant

Located in the Old Town and decorated in an elegant, minimalist fashion, this smart vegetarian fine dining restaurant is perfect for special occasions. Half of its internationally-influenced menu is vegan, and the other half vegetarian. Options include dishes such as gnocchi with warm peach salad, coconut polenta with tikka masala cream and spiced brassicas, and mushroom and heather ale strudel with polenta chips.

The first vegan Italian restaurant in Edinburgh, this warm and easygoing New Town restaurant is run by a Roman family. Using vegan cheese and faux meats, the menu is entirely vegan, featuring Italian classics such as spaghettoni alla carbonara, vegan tiramisu, and pizza made from scratch, with gluten free versions of pizzas and pastas available also.
