Craigwell Townhouse started life as a brewery, but is now a charming self-catering apartment which stretches itself over four floors, allowing plenty of room to escape and relax in.
This is an extremely interesting property which is situated in Edinburgh’s Old Town, just a couple of minutes’ walk from the Royal Mile and close to Holyrood Palace and Arthur’s Seat. It is well-situated to explore Edinburgh on foot and provides a great base for a holiday in the city centre. A bright property catching a good part of the day’s sunshine, it has wonderful views to the south from the living room and kitchen over the city towards Salisbury Crags and the Palace.
Originally the property was part of a brewery which was built at the end of the 19th century, and as such ran successfully up until 1955. In the 1980s the brewery was converted to homes, winning a Royal Institute of British Architects award. The conversion has been cleverly done to create a comfortable home within a building of much history and character.
There is access to a wonderful garden which was once an arboretum and sits above the property. The elevated position provides an escape from the bustle of the city and incredible views across the Old Town to Arthur’s Seat. It’s a great spot to enjoy an evening relaxing after a busy day exploring the city.
There are two double bedrooms, one on the first floor where there is a shower room and the second on level two where there is a bathroom with a shower over the bath. The wet facilities have been recently refurbished to a high standard. The second bedroom has two single beds which can be joined to make one large double upon request.
The third level has the kitchen which is furnished with a large family dining table and is well equipped with all the necessary appliances, crockery and cutlery for the budding chef to cook breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is a dishwasher and a small balcony off the kitchen where you can admire the views and survey the Old Town.
On the top level is the living room, a great spot to relax and unwind with a comfortable sofa and chairs next to the flat screen HDTV and DVD player. Wi-Fi is included in the rental.
The garden is accessed between the third and fourth floor at the back of the property with steps taking you up above the property to a lawn and drying area.
